San Antonio College students' network for the 2008 election

Election 2008

For my paper on the election 2008 I interviewed my friend, Amber
Williamson.

She is 21 years old and both me and her work at academy as sales
associates.

What we do is clean up after people that cannot put the clothes that they
try on away.

We also do other things but that is mainly what we do.

We also find the
clothes in the dressing room thrown all over the floor.

It’s like people think they are
at home.

Anyways I interviewed her in the brake room that is so freezing cold it feels like winter when you walk in there.

Well as we were sitting down on the old wobbly chairs I asked her what mattered most to her on the election.

Amber says; “I am worried about our security and how our money is going to be handled”.

She is afraid of being in a great depression state again.

I know it is not very much that amber can explain, but for people now days a lot of things do not matter when it is not happening to them.

Amber wants to be able to trust our government.

One of the chief threats to the global economy is that banks and other financial institutions are hoarding cash, which makes it harder for businesses and households to finance their day-to-day affairs. Lower interest rates reduce the cost of borrowing for banks, businesses and households, and potentially boost confidence. But it's far from clear whether the lower rates will make banks and other lenders, which are gripped by fears of defaults by borrowers, any more willing to lend.

Like for example whatever they tell us they are going to do to make this world better, “I want to see it happen or also whoever wins the election I want to know that they are going to make the right decision on things”; Says Amber.

Basically what is important to her is trusting that our world is going to be ok with the money situation, and that it is going to be spent on good things that we are going to need to live off of.

I know now with people and businesses being in dept with money, it worries all of us because that is what we need to manage throughout life.

She is just thinking about the food, the health insurance, school loans, gas prices, and stuff.

I guess amber sees all the different things that can happen and she worries about all that.

The people I interviewed were not really sure about what was going on with this situation, neither was amber.

So that’s why I think she just talked about things around us she knows can affect the way we live and affect our future.

I know what she thought was not one big issue but she was just talking about a lot of little things she is worried about.

So I just tried to talk about everything she said.

If I would have done more research, I could have put down more information, but I just went off of what amber said because it was supposed to be based on the issues the person had that we interviewed.

I think mostly everyones concern is the economy now days i mean what were we to if the situation gets worse and we get pushed out of our jobs i mean i think we would all panic. We wouldn't have a way to feed opurselves or whoever dependsa on us,we would also have to move out of our houses asnd stuff like that beacuse we wouldn't have a way to pay our rents and thjings like that i mean it's a hoerrible thing to think about but i feel if this situation continues all our fears will become a reality.

Well everyone is scared of losing their jobs because of the economy going down so bad. Somehow economy is affecting everyone now days.
For example I work for a restaurant and I only work part time because of school. I depend to much of this work because I have to make my own payments. Eventhough I only work part time it surprises me when my managers ask me if I want to go home early. They are always finding a way to cut the personal so they dont have to pay more since we are not getting to much business as we were used to so that way they have enough money to buy more supplies. but what about us, the people that work for them? We all have people that depend from us. We all have to buy food as well, medicine if we get sick and all of that, that we all need. We all depend on economy.

In these days everybody is worried about the economy since we are not doing so well. A lot of people like your friend Amber are afraid of been in a great depression state again, but also like Amber says for other people this situation don’t really matter since is not happening to them example rich people they don’t have to worried about the gas price going up, or the food been more expensive but people like us from the middle or low class, we worried about the economy since we need to buy food for ourselves and our family and we have to pay for school and buy clothes and stuff like that, and the prices are going up so much and if our economy continues doing bad later on not just your friend is going to be worried about been in a great depression but the whole state is going to worried about that so lets just hope that our new presidents do something about this main issue that is the economy for everyone in this state.

I have to agree, right now everyone's main concern is the way the economy is slowly but surely going downward. I think the main concern is that with the economy in such a status, people are not willing to spend there money which in turn means that certain companies will eventually let people go which will in turn cause unemployment to sky rocket and also less money to be spent. It will be the start of a huge domino effect that we dont want. If the government would just help out the middle class which needs the help the most then it would help the economy.

The economy is a major issue concerning every american because everythring has gone up in cost and the money is just not there for us. No matter what it is you want to buy, it is so expensive to buy, the one good thing is that gas ment down and that is good because i was spending 60 dollars to fill my truck up. The only thing we can do is hope and pray that our situation does not get any worse that what it already is.

Well yes everyone is worried about the economy and what will happen and I might loose my job and gas prices are high and it goes on and on. I work I go to school and I'm a wife. Nothing has affected me, We all need to learn how to manage money and budget your self. There has to be someone selling a burger or at wal-mart chashing you out, or at the bank cashing your check....my point, there is jobs, people are just getting to lazy. They just think asking for money is the easy way out. Life is not a bowl of chocolates and it will all come to an end. I just live my life one day at time and don't rush through things, relax, there people out there dying of so much stress cause there own so much or they don't have money for payments, but hey only they get themselves into it. I't a good thing to listen to the elections and vote if you want to complain.

How we will be able to spend our money is a main concern. Will people be able to provide for their families, afford health care and insurance, afford the gas to get to work, pay for college, or make their house payments? Since the economy is not to well at this time people will cut spending where ever they can. This may mean no insurance for families or not being able to go to college. Cutting these items will not help the economy of America grow. Most of America is part of the middle class, and the middle class needs help during this slow economic time. If the government were to help out the middle class, then more people of our country would be better off. With assistance the middle class would be able to afford all the necessities for their families and maybe even afford to spend money in other ways. Possibly purchasing from small businesses which will help small businesses grow. However helping small businesses, first and for most, with the downfall of the economy makes no sense if there wont be help for the middle class. Who will purchase from small businesses if the middle class can not?
